2 Years of blogging
This time of year is the longest day of the year. (or the shortest night, depending on your habits) The Solstice triggers me to write a post. Since I've started blogging on June 22nd, 2006 today means I've been blogging happily on DirTeam for a period of 2 years.
Statistics
The last two years here on DirTeam have resulted in 117 posts on my blog, named "The things that are better left unspoken". I've covered many topics in the last two years. After analyzing the tags from the posts I've written up to now a clear shift can be seen from Exchange Server 2007 (orange) and Windows Vista (green) to Windows Server 2008 (dark blue):
I hope this change appealed to the subscribers of my ramblings, since a new shift might also be detected: I've started looking at Windows 7 (purple).
Common themes
Being prepared
I've been a little scout and I never quite lost that Scout motto. I guess I'm aiming at staying ahead of the Microsoft curve by looking at technology that won't become mainstream for at least a while. I find it prepares me without getting stressed out when I'm confronted with the product in a production environment.
Staying tech savvy
In March 2007 I began studying for a Bachelor degree in Business Information Technology. The study involves 16 various courses and a thesis. I've done the 16 courses and I'm now hatching my thesis. This study prepares me for a management consulting job. In the mean time I find myself highly attracted to getting and staying involved technically.
Helping out others
I've been posting a lot in the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 TechNet Forums in the past year. I've been able to help people out by pointing them to posts here on DirTeam. I've also been intrigued by some of the problems other forum users presented and started getting to the bottom of it. For me this has been a wonderful give-and-take relationship between me, my blog and the forums.
Speaking engagements
The last year has surrealistically become a year in which I started doing sessions for Microsoft. By entering and winning the Microsoft Netherlands Speaker Talent contest I had the chance to experience the Speaker Room ambiance and interact with a lot of people, MVPs, Technology Advisors and Technology Evangelists . Telling people about Server Core has been challenging and very rewarding!
Concluding
I would like to say a few simple words to everyone that has been reading my blog and enriching my life:
Thank you!
