If you have ever had to move or rebuild a DNS server and have a complicated forwarder list there is an easy way to export the list and then import them back into the new server and/or use this export for a new build.
- open up regEdit
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DNS Server\Zones
From the menu select File and then Export. Saving the file to a location that will be available for the new server.
Open up the newly exported files and clean up any zones you may not want to transfer, save and close it
Log onto the new server and open up regEdit then select File and Import.
Follow this by restarting the DNS server service
Bring up the DNS mmc console and you should now see the new zones.
