Two times now I was asked to help people with their computer because it did not perform/work anymore as it should. Why? Because people do not know what they are doing, do not realize the internet can be an unsafe place, install all kinds of crap they find on the internet AND do not keep their computers up-to-date!

To give you an idea, the computer took 45 minutes to be ready for use, it took 20 hours to install SP2 for XP (this is true!), it contained about 10 virusses/spyware/etc.

 

To make it very very simple:

  1. Use a virusscanner and keep it up-to-date
  2. Use anti-spyware and keep it up-to-date
  3. Use Windows Update and keep the computer up-to-date
  4. Use the Windows Firewall in SP2
  5. If you don't trust an e-mail DELETE it!
  6. If you don't know the sender of an e-mail DELETE it!
  7. If you don't trust an attachment within an e-mail DELETE it!
  8. DON'T INSTALL ALL THE CRAP YOU FIND ON THE INTERNET!
  9. THINK!

Yes, it is that simple!
