W2K or W2K3 DCs after promotion MAY have issues retrieving RID pool when the RID Master FSMO is hosted on a W2K3 SP1 DC
I have seen questions in the newsgroups from people that said that their just prmoted server to a DC, W2K All SPs or W2K3 SP0, was NOT able to retrieve a RID pool from the RID Master FSMO. Performing severals tests show nothing strange except that the just promoted DC does not have a RID pool.
The fun part about this is that this error depends on the current configuration and which DC was used to source the just promoted DC. This problem may or may not occur!
Well, this is all described in the KB article mentioned below with the WHYs, HOWs and possible solutions.
- Active Directory attributes that refer to a prefix may not be stored in the local copy of Active Directory on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Cheers,
