Mathieu Chateau (you can find his BLOG here: http://lordoftheping.blogspot.com/) did a domain rename in his environment and with his permission I provide this information which is his own experience (and which is also available on his own blog).

 

Additional impact/actions for:

  • SQL server:
  • Cluster server:
  • SMS server:
    • Uninstall and re-install after first exporting collections/queries as MOF files
  • WSUS server:
    • No issues found
  • Citrix server:
    • All users needed to be recreated
    • If you want to change the farm name also you would need to recreate all published applications
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Norton passed trough without any trouble, server and client still
      communicate well.
    • You will need to update all places where the domain name is used like services, scheduled tasks, etc. Scripting helped here.
