A lot of people on the newsgroups have been having problems with the introduction of W2K3 R2 based DCs into their existing AD environment based upon W2K or W2K3.

Main problem was that people were using the ADPREP version on the first CD of the R2 distribution instead of the ADPREP version on the SECOND CD of the R2 distribution.

 

Microsoft created a knowledgebase article that explains this and also gives additional information.

  • Error message when you run the Active Directory Installation Wizard: "The version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is not compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer"
