Recovering Word Files
Word usually does an excellent job of recovring files if it crashes due to some unforeseen errors ;)

But sometimes when you reopen word you don’t get the document recovery task pane and you think word didn’t store the file well maybe you might be in luck.

If you paranoid like me and changed your auto save file to something small like every 3 minutes then you might be in luck.

You have an auto recovery option that stores the file in a .asd file format somewhere in the OS file system. Now to find out where you do the following:

Tools > Options > File Locations Tab > Select AutoRecoveryFiles > Click on Modify

Bingo you have a location :) Now close the Option Dialog and navigate to the path its usually C:\Documents And Settings\<User_Name>\ApplicationData\Microsoft\Word. In that location you will find .asd files. The files will start with AutoRecovery Save Of <Your_File_Name_Here>.asd, if you find one of these you are in business. Double click on the file and you notice it will open the file with the Document recovery task pane now exposed.

Before anything else happens save the file as <Your_File_Name_Here>.doc somewhere safe.
